Muslims kick against airstrip license granted to Bishop Oyedepo
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), an Islamic human rights organization, has voiced strong opposition to the license issued to Bishop David Oyedepo for the construction of an airstrip.
MURIC asserts that such projects should be thoroughly examined to ensure they do not violate the rights and interests of other communities.
The group's director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, stated that this sets a troubling precedent, especially in a country facing religious conflicts and widespread insecurity.
As a result, they are calling for the license to be revoked and have urged the National Assembly to intervene in the situation.
This demand for revocation was articulated in a press release from Professor Ishaq Akintola, the Founder and Executive Director of MURIC, on Friday, October 11, 2024.
The statement noted:
“The Federal Government recently confirmed that it has granted a license for an airstrip to Bishop David Oyedepo of Canaanland, also known as Winners Chapel or Living Faith Church.
“We strongly denounce this decision. It is not only reckless and thoughtless, but also insensitive and provocative. This sets a dangerous precedent. Such actions should not occur in a multi-religious society already burdened by religious tensions and significant insecurity. This license must be revoked immediately. It is noteworthy that the license is already causing controversy as it poses a threat to national security.”

The North must be prepared for possible separation, says Professor Lugga
The sufferings and mismanagement of Nigeria and its resources are now felt by all.
As some ethnic groups want to break free and form their own nation, for example Biafra, led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the Yoruba nation led by Sunday Igboho, the North is also preparing to break the idea of "one Nigeria".
Professor Sani Abubakar Lugga, the 5th Wazir of Katsina, has called on the Northern region to unite and prepare for self-determination like their Southern counterparts.
He demanded that the North should fight to get their own nation and separate from Nigeria since the ideology of Nigeria no longer foster unity.
The fight and the demand for separation can be related to nepotism and the struggle for power.
PS: Do you see his request being granted?

President Bola Tinubu has urged for prompt justice following the mistreatment of Nigeria's Super Eagles at a Libyan airport.
The troubling experience endured by the national football team at the hands of their Libyan hosts and authorities prompted the Nigerian Football Federation to withdraw the Super Eagles from the match scheduled for Tuesday.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday, President Tinubu expressed his expectation that the Disciplinary Board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) would conduct a comprehensive investigation and recommend appropriate actions against those who intentionally violated the organization's statutes and regulations.
The President praised the effective collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Ministry of Sports Development in addressing the unfortunate incident and ensuring the players' safe return. He commended the players for maintaining their spirit despite the harrowing experience in Libya.
President Tinubu acknowledged football's ability to unite nations and people, describing the treatment of Nigerian citizens as unsportsmanlike and inhumane, which starkly contrasts with the spirit of the game he values. He passionately called on all football enthusiasts and administrators to come together and work collaboratively to prevent and address such incidents in the future.
Ayodele Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti State, has called on ex-Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to refrain from participating in future elections in Nigeria. In an interview on Channels TV on Sunday, Fayose expressed skepticism about the chances of his party, the PDP, and Atiku as its candidate defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
Atiku has previously run for the presidency in Nigeria in 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023, with three of those attempts ending in primary losses. Despite the controversies surrounding the party, he may still be considering another run in 2027. Earlier this year, the 77-year-old stated in an interview with Voice of America Hausa that he would run again “God willing” when asked about his future plans.
However, during the Sunday Politics segment on Channels Television, Fayose suggested that Atiku should avoid contesting elections again, especially given the ongoing crisis within the PDP. He remarked, “By the time Asiwaju (Bola Tinubu) finishes, Atiku Abubakar will probably be 80 or 81, so what would be the appeal?” Fayose emphasized the importance of stepping back when one is still celebrated, stating that he respects Atiku but believes Nigerians are looking for a younger generation of leaders. He questioned the rationale behind Atiku’s potential candidacy once more.
Reflecting on the leadership turmoil within the party, the former governor noted that PDP members feel they no longer have a cohesive party. He reiterated, “As I always say, we can defeat the APC, but when we can't defeat them when we don't have thw party called PDP
