The scary truth is before the faces of people irrespective of race and religion.

More than one billion people live in extreme poverty around the world, according to a United Nations Development Program (UNDP) report released today, Thursday 17 October, 2024. The report says that children are more than half of those affected.

The paper, published with the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), highlighted that poverty levels were three times higher in countries at war, as 2023 saw the highest number of conflicts in the world from the Second World War.

Many countries are experiencing harsh economic meltdown which greatly support the UN report. PS: Do you think 3rd world countries are greatly affected and have the highest numbers out of the 1.1 billion people?

Many concerned Nigerians are worries about the instability in getting the product. According to them, the blessing is mow a curse because a country blessed with oil shouldn't be suffering fuel scarcity.

A Retired teacher cries out for help as wife welcomes triplets after 24 years of waiting.

A Nigerian couple, Gbenga Familusi, 58, and his 52-year-old wife, have recently welcomed triplets after waiting for 24 years, but they are now struggling financially to care for their newborns.

Gbenga, a retired teacher and minister with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), shared his worries in a heartfelt interview with The Punch.

In July, the couple celebrated the arrival of their long-desired children, but their happiness has been overshadowed by the rising costs of raising their three-month-old babies.

Gbenga revealed that their savings have quickly run out, and the expenses for food, diapers, and medical care have exceeded their means. He is reaching out to compassionate individuals and organizations for financial help, hoping to provide a better life for his children.

“Right now, what we need most is financial support. The costs associated with caring for the babies have skyrocketed. For instance, a single tin of baby formula costs around N10,000, and with three babies, we require more than one tin every few days.

“It’s not just the formula; we also have to buy medications and diapers frequently. With newborns, diapers need to be changed constantly, and these supplies deplete much faster than we expected.”

“Additionally, we must account for regular hospital visits and unexpected medical expenses that arise from having multiple infants at once. All of these costs are overwhelming.

NIGERIA IS NOT RICH, SPEND YOUR FINANCE WISELY

The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, has encouraged Nigerian families to engage in open conversations about careful resource management, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing essential needs.

He pointed out that Nigeria's wealth is not as substantial as many perceive, calling for more careful financial management at both the national and household levels.

Bagudu made these comments on Wednesday in Abuja after a meeting with Federal Government officials and representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

This meeting was held in light of the ongoing economic difficulties, which have been exacerbated by rising energy and food prices.

"The Bola Tinubu administration has made significant decisions that, while difficult, are essential for sustainable growth," Bagudu remarked.

He defended the government's strategies, highlighting that state and local governments are now receiving better funding and that reforms are beginning to produce positive outcomes in terms of investment.

"While tough decisions may bring challenges, we are addressing them. Many of the actions taken are starting to lead to increased investment.

"We believe we have halted the decline. Although we are not yet where we want to be, we must face our realities. We need to acknowledge that we are not as affluent as we once thought," he said.

Bagudu emphasized the importance of collective efforts, both within families and at the national level, to effectively mobilize resources in response to the current situation.

Don Jazzy confirms sending N100M to Verydarkman’s NGO

Previously, the activist had announced plans to establish an NGO focused on renovating schools and supporting community development. To his surprise, he received a staggering N100 million from a single donor.

EFCC Operatives Are Terrorists, Says Senior Advocate Of Nigeria, Olisa Agbakoba

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Olisa Agbakoba has labeled the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a "terrorist organization," accusing it of misusing its authority to instill fear in the Nigerian populace.

During an appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Friday, Agbakoba voiced his concerns regarding the agency's actions and its overlapping functions with other law enforcement agencies.

He advocated for a reevaluation of the EFCC’s responsibilities, highlighting the confusion that arises from its similarities with other bodies like the Special Fraud Unit and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). “Why do we have the EFCC, Special Fraud Unit, and ICPC all performing the same functions, yet they aren’t apprehending anyone?” he questioned.

While he acknowledged some successes of the EFCC, Agbakoba criticized its management of high-profile cases, particularly regarding the treatment of former police officials. “Even Tarfa, as problematic as he was, being dragged – was that appropriate?” he asked, implying that such tactics demonstrate poor judgment. “In a rational society, would you drag a former Inspector General of Police? That’s unacceptable.”

Agbakoba’s most severe criticism of the EFCC was his characterization of their methods: “These individuals are terrorists. In my opinion, they terrorize us. They wield their power, dressed in their red coats, to intimidate us to the point where just hearing 'EFCC' makes you afraid. That’s not the role of a law enforcement agency.”

He called on the National Assembly to clarify the EFCC’s functions and urged for a reassessment of its operations.

Monday Okpebholo, the governor-elect of Edo, has accused outgoing governor Godwin Obaseki's administration of allegedly misappropriating government property.

Okpebholo is set to be inaugurated on November 12.

In a statement released on Wednesday, he claimed that the outgoing governor is allegedly securing last-minute loans from financial institutions.

The governor-elect cautioned financial institutions against granting loans to the outgoing governor and urged them to refrain from engaging in any transactions that could jeopardize the state's finances.

“With great concern, we are dismayed by the numerous reports of government funds and properties being looted by officials of the outgoing administration from the Government House in Benin City,” Okpebholo stated.

“It is unfortunate that just a month before the transition, Governor Godwin Obaseki's administration is still reportedly acquiring loans from banks and other financial institutions under dubious circumstances.

“We are also aware of significant looting and vandalism of properties, including vehicles, furniture, electronics, household items, and even carpets from the offices and residences of the Edo state government.

“This unacceptable conduct erodes the trust and confidence of our citizens in those who have been in public service over the past eight years.”

The governor-elect called on security agencies to “thoroughly investigate these allegations and ensure that those found responsible are held accountable, while safeguarding the government house and offices from vandalism

Jumia Exits South Africa And Tunisia To Focus On Nigeria

Jumia Technologies, an e-commerce retailer focused on Africa, plans to close its South African online fashion platform Zando and its operations in Tunisia by the end of the year.

CEO Francis Dufay stated that this decision is part of a strategic shift towards more profitable markets like Nigeria. To achieve profitability, Jumia is implementing significant cost-cutting strategies, which include workforce reductions, exiting the grocery and food delivery sectors, and scaling back on delivery services that are not central to its e-commerce operations.

Dufay explained that the performance of these countries did not align with the company's overall strategy, citing challenging macroeconomic conditions, a competitive market, and limited growth potential in the medium term. He emphasized that this decision is the right one, as it will enable the company to focus its resources on the other nine markets where growth opportunities are more favorable.

Jumia's remaining markets include Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, and Nigeria. Dufay is optimistic that success in these areas could help offset the losses from the closures in South Africa and Tunisia, noting that Zando and the Tunisian operations accounted for only 2.7% of total orders and 3% of Gross Merchandise Value in the first half of the year.

Founded in 2012, Zando.co.za has become a significant online fashion retailer in South Africa, while Jumia's operations in Tunisia have been functioning under the Jumia brand.

A coalition of 17 European nations is advocating for a significant shift in their approach to illegal migration policy.

This new strategy will have serious implications for individuals whose documents are no longer valid or who have been ordered to leave the country but have not complied.

Those who are entitled to remain must be held responsible for their actions.

Individuals allowed to stay must clearly outline their responsibilities and obligations.

Failure to comply should be addressed and penalized.

The group expects governments to be empowered to carry out more deportations of those who violate these rules.

This initiative is led by Austria and the Netherlands and has received support from Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Slovakia, and Sweden, as well as Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein.

Well-known media figure Toke Makinwa and her partner Farouk are said to have gotten married in Lagos.

Various media sources have reported this news, and images from the event have circulated widely on social media.

It is believed that Toke Makinwa has tied the knot with her rumored long-term boyfriend, Farouk, who is an ex of Sharon Ooja. Pictures circulating online show Toke in a white wedding dress alongside her partner.

While the couple has not yet shared any official announcements, many internet users have already extended their congratulations.

Israel has announced that it has confirmed the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, following the emergence of images that allegedly show his body buried under rubble.

The 62-year-old, who has been leading Hamas in Gaza since 2017, is thought to have orchestrated the attacks on October 7, 2023.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz made the announcement after DNA testing and other examinations were conducted on a body discovered in Gaza. He stated that officials can now confirm that Sinwar was "killed today by IDF [Israeli Defense Forces] soldiers."

Katz described Sinwar's death as a "significant military and moral victory for Israel," suggesting that it opens the door for the immediate release of hostages and a potential shift towards a new reality in Gaza, free from Hamas and Iranian influence.

This announcement follows the circulation of photographs online that purportedly show Sinwar's deceased body, although these images have not been independently verified.

If confirmed, his death would signify a major achievement for Israel, which has been targeting him since launching strikes and ground operations in Gaza in response to last year's Hamas incursion.

Earlier today, the Israeli military stated that officials were investigating the possibility of Sinwar's death, noting that during IDF operations in Gaza, three terrorists were killed, and there were no indications of hostages in the vicinity. The military emphasized that their forces are proceeding with necessary caution in the area.

Hamas has not yet responded to these claims.
